Great block[mid 62 casting],2k is too much for a bare block.Pushing it for a complete good running engine.
Pushing what? Can you buy complete good running 348-409's for $2000? I have cash for any out there. I bought a long block a few years back for $3400 minus everything to make it run. After adding intake, distributor, flex plate, starter, carb/air cleaner, water pump, exhaust manifolds, water neck, thermostat and all the other little parts and pieces that go on it to make it run. Checked compression and had uneven numbers but enough to probably fire it up. After I changed the oil/filter in it, I placed it on my test stand and I found that it ran but needed a camshaft and valve job. After I pulled it apart I found it needed cylinder walls machined including the mains that is how my Stroker motor project started 2 years ago.
Don, I trust in your opinion but where can I get good running engines for $2000. I buy and sell these engines and parts all of the time. Here is a quick search on what is around online.

LOL! I was hoping for a deal! I did see the one in New York but the picture says 2015 so I can only guess that the motor ran nearly 5 years ago.

In a 1961 impala conv. Original engine.????As i look at some info i find the 814 and the 962 are identical except the cam valley has been redesigned. Could it have notched cylinders??? Or is it a good block? don't know head # yet, might tell us something.

It seems that the original engine was broken to the point that that engine went into the car. With all the info being still on the pad,it wasn't a service replacement block as might have been used under warrenty, but a short block from a truck at the least. I wouldn't worry so much about what it was,but what it can be.The 962 is a great block to start with for a performance style stroker. The usual questions such as current bore size and condition, any cracks, ect. trump what it was at one time to me any way.

We're not talking about the same things here. Most of those ads are for engines that have already been "rebuilt". I'm referring to rebuildable core engines.I'm not generally intreasted in one of those unless I know who built it,and what parts were used.

Don I picked up a 3755011 block with date and code of T0412H a couple years ago that has single notches in the cylinders. I believe it to be a 250 HP single 4 bbl passenger car block. The notches are in way of the exhaust valves, don't truck blocks have two notches per cylinder? Also how can I tell what year this block is as it was used from 58 thru 61.

Yes the early [58-61] year model truck/industrial 348's had two notches. As to the date, look at the area around the casting number at the rear of the block. You'll see the date code cast in the block there.

Ok would it be a julian date code with no indication of year?
