A few years ago before my cousin passed away, 4 of us rode out to Colorado on our Harleys. Put on around 725 miles the first day. The second day we rode up Pikes Peak. If I remember correctly the last 17 miles or so is not paved, just rocked. We got to the top, looked around and headed back down. When I came into the first curve I realized my rear brake no longer worked. Don't know what happened all of a sudden , but it was worthless. So there I was shifting down for corners and using only my front brake on loose rock, a recipe for disaster. I came into one curve a little hot and knew I was in trouble. There I was trying to apply the front brake lightly and shift down at the same time. I shifted down a little late and when I let the clutch out I slid the back wheel. Actually the back wheel sliding saved me from going into a 6' ditch and was the only reason I made it around the curve. I got her straighted back out and made it to the bottom in one piece, luckily.
