few errors in the article, the original Daytona mystery motor was 409 cubes. Dick Keinath told me he redesigned the crank after the Datona 1963 rule change to 429 cubes, the crank which was a 409 crank now stroked to 3.65 became available to the Z11 engine team. so the Z11 also was 427 since the blocks were based on each other. The semi hemi design was sort of a take off from the mild hemi heads used in the Corvair, an engine designed by Eastern Aircraft, not eastern airlines who was then a wwII spin off company for GM during war time. The corvair motor was supposed to be used in a military helocopter contract . Dick Keinath was down at daytona under cover with sunglasses and a large panama hat keeping his eye on things.
