I paid $1500 for my 63' Impala with 45,000miles in 1980. Drove it thru high school and colledge. Used it to court my wife. Retired it to a farm shed after diving it back and forth to work for a year. After 5 years in the shed poured gas in it and drove it back up to KC. The car has been part of me for 24 years now.

Finally!

I bought my '64 SS 12 years ago after I decided to give up on my 4-door hardtop because it was too far gone. I paid $3000 for the SS in 1992 - it was a rusted-out, beat car but I saw some potential. It came with the 340 hp 409 block, heads and a bunch of mismatched parts.

I've worked on this car since then, along with buying a house, getting married, remodeling the house, having 2 (and soon 3) kids. I did all the work myself - bodywork, paint, 283 install, interior, rear-end swap, glass and on and on and on. Never having done most of these before, it was very time-consuming. It took until 2000 before I could drive it.

Finally, yesterday was the very first day in 12 years that I started feeling like it was worth all the work. I've got it looking better and running better and it's finally starting to be relaxing and fun.

Hopefully I'll be able to get the 409 together and keep it forever.

Ron, I have a 64ss409 which was built in Nov. 1963. Which I believe is 40 years and 8 months ago. These cars may be brothers.

My first car was a 50's musclecar--a 57 New Yorker with a 392 Hemi (but dad made me sell it). I'd like to have another one now!

I've had my 61 409 for 4 years now and plan to keep it. A few more fixes to go and it will be reliable... ;)

I really have trouble "letting go" of my cars :help ....
What I have now:

63 Parisienne Safari SW, 340HP 409 4 speed... will be 19 years this fall.

59 GMC 9380 1 ton. Runs a bored / stroked W block... 15 years.

35 Ford 3W coupe. original Canadian car.... 13 years.

62 Belair sport coupe ( you know this one ;) )... 12 years.

60 Nash Rambler Metropolitan ( gave it to my wife for Christmas in 95 )... 9 years.

64 Laurentian Safari 9 pass SW, 340HP 409 4 speed... 4 years.

60 Nomad SW 250HP 348. .... just over 1 year.

and my biggest regret ?

The grey primered 1948 Ford bus coupe ( short door ) with a hot rodded flathead & Chevy 4 speed / 57 Chev rear w/ 3.36 posi. Bought it in 1983... assembled it and drove it daily ( in season ) from 1987-1991. Made the HUGE mistake of selling it in late '91... to help pay for the '35.
Should've found another way :(
