Is this style wheel referred to as a station wagon wheel, and was this rim optional on a 409 car?
Part of heavy duty or handling package?

The station wagon 14x6 rims were optional. I ordered them on my 63 409/400/2.52/3.36 changed to 4.56. This was spring 63 senior year college. Very fast but could not take a 170 mile trip without stopping for gas.

Sold it and bought a 63 327/300/2.52/3.36 off the lot no 14x6 wheels obviously.

BTW in 63 there were chrome wheels option but were 14x5 only.

I believe the additional inch of the 6” wheels may be to the outside, evedienced by lip extension of the inner web.

The 1963 model year was the first year the 6” wide wagon wheels were an option, RPO P12 on non wagon cars. They were available on any ‘63 big Chevy ...not just the 409 cars...and btw 409 cars came standard with 5” wide wheels. There is no such thing as a “409 wheel”.

So in your guys opinion, is the wheel in the picture one of those wheels?
How hard are they to find? How much are they worth?
Thanks.

It looks like it but it has been 54 years since I looked at the ones I had. If some one has a photo of a 14x5, I could definitelysay yes or no.

In 61 and 62 they were available only on the 9 passenger station wagon.
He called them 409 in his description ,not my description. Years ago in a local vintage antique yard you could walk through and see if you needed anything ,you could pull it and pay the guy. There was a red 62 wagon with those wheels, and I thought to myself walking by it many times I should get them. So when I finally returned later at another time car was setting on the drum's ,,,,,,:facepalm

Just have a deeper off set to have a small dog dish hub cap sunk in more.I do like the look.
Yes sort of......up to 63 the offset of the wheel was to the outside of the wheel bearings. In 64, the offset was to the inside of the wheel bearings with the introduction of the "safety bead" on the wheel.

Tommy....14x6 were "standard" on wagons and "optional" on all others. HD and taxi were 15x5.
Phil,
I believe the 14X6 wheels were standard on 1961 and 1962 9 passenger wagons only. They were not optional on any other 61 or 62 models. They were available through the Chevrolet parts dept.
