La hot rods....The 4:88 gears will be sold ( plan is 3:64's and a richmond 5 speed) and then will be put under my 1964 Biscayne.
Skip fix...Thats what I said when I saw it....it was under a 68 Camaro that was used for drag racing, guy just "assumed" it was a 10 bolt based on the 10 bolts holding the pumpkin in...got the casting numbers from him, looked them up in the Fabcraft book and was on my way with cash in hand....

I may be interested in the 4:88’s... let me know if you don’t already have a buyer..

I have a carrier for one of these buried in the basement somewhere for one of these rear ends.. was thinking about selling it but I don’t know which one it is...probably going to go with a spool..

Phil Reed.....olds/pontiac ha 3 different carriers, series 1, 2, 3
I have a 22096x carrier, which is a 59-63 series 2 safe -t- trac for 2:69-3:31 oem gearing. Fabcraft makes steeper gears to fit the series 2 carrier so you do not need to run a ring gear spacer. And believe me, I'm not this smart....the fabcraft book is!

So does that mean anything lower (higher number) goes on the 3 series or is there a 4 series?

there is a 3 series which is 3:42 and higher numerically...OEM gears went from 2:56 to 6:14 on 3 different carriers which differed in their ring gear mounting flange. Series 3 had a thicker flange, That kept the ring gear thickness relatively thin for the steeper gears

A little up date....sent my housing to Johns Industries to have the brackets put on. Good thing I didn't try to do this myself as the housing was bent a few degrees, I couldn't tell by eye, but Johns found it when they put the housing in their jig.Instead of trying to fix the housing, what John came up with was cutting back/off the tubes and welding in fresh none tapered ones. As you can see in the last 2 photos, the tubes were also braced and welded to the inside of the housing.John thinks this will be as strong or stronger than a back braced housing....

Looks really nice!

My old 409 Impala I learned the hard way about spacer rings. Didn't know what to look for when I bought the posi pumpkin-high school kid. Side stepped the clutch one day in front of a friend's house. Engine reved but did not go anywhere! Lots of grinding noises.
