Does anyone, have a suggestion, for which type of ATF works best, in our Power Steering cars.:rub I know it used to be Dextron. The stuff that's made today, is much thinner. I seem to recall a discussion on this, awhile ago. Can't remember, if it was here or Chevy Talk. So one suggested to use Type F. I have rebuilt the PS pumps on both my 350 and the 409, and they both leak.:mad

I run a power steering stop leak that is thick as gear oil and I still leave a wet spot from my 63.

Do like the shop manual says and use Type A fluid. NAPA still has it.
I went through this with the 58 ps leaking after rebuilding the pump, cylinder and valve. The newer stuff is just too thin and will leak.
Type A is thicker and solved the problem.

I did not know Type A was still available. I will check at Napa.

Been using John Deere Hy Gard low vis. in the 700r4 and the ps pump for about a year. The shift is a little stiffer (I wish other things were stiffer). No leaks No slips No burn No smell etc. Get it cheap at Farm and Fleet. My racer friends said to give it a try.
