Just got my pistons back from be coated with their APC coating. Fast turn around and the right thickness. Plus they sent all this primo swag! Good company!

I didn't get the t-shirt or anything else as the machine shop had them do the coatings while he was refreshing the engine--he was the one to recommend them--we just pulled the engine apart after 4 years and the coating looks like new

Good to know! I have not heard of anyone who says that the coating doesn't do what they claim. Neat stuff.

What does a coating do, for us too green to burn?

Friction and noise reduction mostly.There could be an increase in ring life as well.

Like Don said. Most pistons come with a recommendation for clearance that is safe but usually a little larger than ideal. This coating is applied to give only .001 clearance. To break it in, you apply a small load which scuffs off the coating where it’s tight as the piston expands. You then let it idle back down to let the piston cool. Oil can now get back in. Where the oil can get to the wear stops. You repeat this process increasing load and rpm each time. What you are left with is the ideal clearance and shape for your engine. Say you have to hone the block and now instead of .005 clearance you have .010. Instead of buying new pistons, you can have them coated with this stuff. Comes in handy when you have an expensive set of custom pistons. So you get get the ideal clearance, better ring seal and life, quieter, and less friction because the coating holds oil. Line2line is the only company that offers this type of coating. The other skirt coating out there only can be applied between .001 and .002 thick and eventually wears away. This stuff can be applied up to .020 and stays put.

I don't know if Show Cars offers it but KB does list Line to Line coatings as an option for their forgings and it could be something worth serious consideration even for a street only engine.

I'm thinking it would reduce piston rock also. There's a lot of coatings that help with various issues. Heat sheilding is a good one.

If you think that piston looked that way out of the box you don’t know Mills.

Line2Line does a great job. Several engines on the dyno have had the pistons coated by them on the initial build. Cylinders look like new even after some hard dyno time....like this recent 283-220 Super Stock engine.
