Looks like you had the body dipped. Where do you live? I haven't seen that dip in decades, of course I'm in Calif and they pretty much outlawed that stuff. But I use to hear issues with not being able to get all the caustic out of the nooks and crannies.

Love those 58's :beer

On the topic of dipping, I had a pair of doors and a hood dipped. I had no problems but I did a really thorough job of pressure washing them. :dunno

We can still do it down here, re the nooks and crannies, must be cleaned thoroughly and coated as soon as possible, although very difficult to do, replicating the factory dipping in neutralizing solutions and etch primers, then fully re-caulk all the seams.

I live southwest of Chicago about 45 min. Yes the body was dipped by Restoration Specialists in Franklin, Wi. I dropped it off on May, 30 and picked it up exactly a week later. They were very quick and did a great job. After metal work is complete I will return the car and they will re dip it one more time to clean it again and then it will go on to be E-coated which should pretty much alleviate any future issues or at least minimize them the ONLY thing you can guarantee about steel is that at SOME time it will rust. The body is in pretty good shape considering its age. I will update with new pictures as time moves on It goes into a caustic solution first that removes the paint, bondo, undercoating, etc then power washed thoroughly, then it goes into another tank that contains acid which neutralizes the caustic solution used in the first tank and also cleans and de-rusts the metal, after the car is rinsed and power washed again and finally a phosphate coating is applied to minimize flash rusting. It is the first time I personally have dipped a car my body man convinced me it would be the best way to go and so far I am agreeing with him. The bottom of the roof was very scaly and inside the doors had a layer of undercoating in them and now they are just so amazingly clean it just looks like brand new metal.
