When I am not playing with classic cars, I have a more money hungry hobby... Classic Boats.

This is my current project, "Pepyana" a 30 Foot shallow draft timber boat built all the way back in 1918.

Dad and I are restoring the hull and bringing out some of her beautiful lines and building a full new deck and cabin.

She will be powered by a 75hp Turbo Diesel Volvo Penta.

Its tear down time... Nothing is safe and everything from the gunwale up is going to be scrapped.

So I am silly enough to be building a boat and a car at the same time. Some say this is the beginning of a life lesson :D

Let me know if you car guys want me to keep rolling with some updates?

Yes.. I am silly bloke taking on 2 projects at once, especially when they are truly worlds apart.

But both will be built to cruise and to have fun with family.

Oh,by all means! Most of us are "Gluttons for punishment"!:wacko

Punishment... Yes it will be. The hip pocket is already hurting. Helps I am single and being single enables such undertakings.

Two projects are perfect for a short attention span. Get sick of the Chev, go play with the boat and vice versa.

While frustrated with the Chev build, I have been cracking on with my Classic Boat

She is close to having a fighting chance at floating again.

Stuffed planks taken out and being replaced with Celery top pine out of Tasmania.

Nate:

Wow, that is some project, thanks for sharing!

Makes my efforts look measly in comparison :).

I have multiple projects going on simultaneously, so I can imagine what you're going through. There's always too much "month" left after the money is all gone :).

Cheers! TomK

Timber is forgiving, so slow and steady wins the race.

The curves are a challenge. You just think the plank gets clamped up and job done. But a fitted plank is bent and twisted all over the place before it goes in, yet fits perfectly. I alway look it at like :dunno

Don't have any photo's that really show it, but this gives you an idea.

Its all sanding, filling, sanding, sanding and a bit more sanding.

19021319_687804061412219_489007571_n.jpg

Followed by caulking.

Twisted cotton is looped into the gaps. Every single gap. This is then covered by putty and then sanded again.

New rub strips being built. These are out of softwood, treated pine actually. As they can be easily replaced when I bang into a few jettys when I have a few beers.
