hello new to this site just purchased a 64 belair post with a 62 409 qb motor 4 speed dual quad 411 posi rear. have a question already so what kind of leak down tester do you guys use on your 409 engine I just purchased one but just like the compression tester i just bought the threads on the screw in hose are to short has stock heads and it appears threads start at bottom of taper thanks

Welcome to this great site Victorniner. If your tester did not come with the proper adapter for a longer reach spark plug hole, you should be able to use an adapter from any compression tester with a long reach adapter.

If you don't have the long reach adapter,get a long reach anti-fouler adapter[Advance Auto,possibally others],screw it onto your gauge,then into the head,problem solved.

thanks guy,s and yes motor is smoking was told it had 10 k on rebuild have done compression test after warming car, plugs out throttle wide open results 1-155 3-160 5-170 7-167 2-165 4-155 6- 163 8- 160 have raw oil on threads of spark plugs?

From what previous owner told me it was rebuilt about 10 k ago was balanced had oversized valves installed and has a crower cam also hooker plated headers
