Hello everyone, new to site. Came here looking for info on a 348 boat engine. I have always liked the look of 348 and 409 engines. I have wanted to put one in my 57 build that I will be starting sometime soon. I found a 1958 Biesmeyer 16' V drive boat that is complete with a 348 in it. The boat is still all together, but has been neglected sitting outside. Not sure if was possible to use this engine from a boat and put into a car, but I have changed my mind and am going to go with a newer LS engine. Going to try and sell the engine/ boat. Any help on motor ID is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Jim

Interesting stamping fonts.... Looks like an "FE" suffix on the front pad. That indicates a 1959 or 1960 348 engine with 335 horses, a manual transmission and 3x2s. Would have been in a passenger car? Might have the 1147 heads. Probably an "011" block? Pop the valve covers and tell us the casting #s on the heads along with the block casting number, intake 3S, anything you can easily spot.

Looks like Nicson boat exhaust logs. Does the intake slope where the carb affixes?

Might be a good start for someone with a 59 or 60 Chevy that wants to be "period correct".

Good luck!

Numbers on rear of block 3755011---D 1 59
Heads 3758379
Front pad on block KM53-----T427FE
Intake 3732757-----J3157
Exhausts manifolds are Edelbrock

OK BSL409, LOL I knew I would get some Grief over the plain Jane LS motors and yeah I know everyone and his brother has one. LOL. The economy has kicked my budget to the curb. I need/want to start on my 57 and selling this boat and or motor to someone else would be best rather letting it sit anymore and waste away. This is a cool boat, wish I could have done it, but it's not going to happen. Attached are pictures of the rear block, pic 1704 & 1700.
The heads are pic 1696.
The intake is pic 1705

No409, Attached are some pics 1695 & 1707. I would like to keep it all together, just in case someone wanted to redo this boat.
The Timing chain cover is a Nicson.

Tom K, It's a 4 barrel intake. pic 1705 has the casting numbers, hard to tell if it's sloping. I can look tomorrow during the day if you want.

CDN, I agree, I wanted to.

Tripower, will respond to your PM.

K9, Will do, first car was a 57 in high school 1976 & 77. Sold it and bought a 70 cuda'. Yep another head slapper.

cool looking boat. My 409 came out of a 65 chris craft

I was thinking about putting the motor in a 57 Chev, just don't see very many of these motors. Really liked the boat and didn't want to take it apart. Wanted to restore it, but economy and budget say no. Rather than it wasting away and getting worse, want to sell and hopefully there is someone who will do this boat. Below is a 59 which looks to be very close to the same hull.
