James after we put the old ones back on we rolled it about 6ft. back and forth several times then took pictures. I was real happy with the overall quality of the tubulars even if they were the same weight. I just wanted the 4-5 degrees caster. And maybe with the lowers installed maybe they might be shorter than stock like the uppers that Jim suggested and if thats the case give back the positive camber. Thanks again for all your thoughts on this.:salute

I can remember reading somewhere..... that if your drop 2” spindles are made by McGaughy’s......???? Spelling ????? ........ if use them you will have camber/caster issues..........Because the spindle is actually shorter than the original.....And if you try to lower it ........you will just increase the problem
I don’t know if this applies ..........

Thanks, that was very informative and depressing at the same time. I have no idea who’s spindles are on this car but i suspect it could be the one i shouldn’t have.

Barry I bought a drop spindle kit and disc brakes for my 63 not knowing and they are McGaughy’s....... I’ll take a picture of a spindle and post it.......I think they also move your wheels out an additional 5/8” or something like that......

I don’t know if all castings had their description and their name...... but if you were to pull the caliper and or the rotors I think you would be able to see .......But here’s the pictures......The steering arm is not an integral part of the 2 inch drop spindle........

There are similarities and there are differences. I measured from the balljoint mounting surfaces and got 10” then measured the stock ones on my other car and got 10.5”.thanks for the great pictures. I did find one of the 2” ball joint spacers that i took off of my other BelAir

Does the added height help correct those issues.........???? Thanks in advance

I’m finally starting to think this thing may run again soon. I’ve been hindered by a torn right rotator cuff, and on top of that i made a rookie mistake drilling steel wth a unibit and sprained my right wrist when it locked up. I’ve had a lot of help ftrom my good friend Roger Robinson. We finished the fuel system today. In case some are wondering I’m gonna be running my old methenol set up. Tomorrow i start wiring the car and hope to start it this weekend. I’m gonna try to get decklid pictures tomorrow.

Latest on the motor. Main reason for tear down was low oil presure the last run i made on it which was #8 and what i thought was an excessive amount of fine aluminum in the oil. Got it torn down last week and didn’t really find anything wrong. Bearings looked good! Cylinder walls looked good. Roger suggested we look in to the melling55HV oil pump. When we took the spring out I couldn’t get the cup to drop out by tapping the pump on something solid. The cup would drop down and stick in the bore and i would have to push it back down with a small screw driver. I guess the pump was bypassing and causing the low preasure at low rpms. Sound feasable. Sooo will put a new pump in it. Got the block back thursday with a fresh hone and wash and will get the shortblock back together next week and wait for head gaskets. Might get some runs in before the first snow!:pray

Barry I believe I had that happen with a m77 pump in my blower motor. Took it for a drive and got on it and after I let off the oil pressure was a lot lower than it normally was. Brought it home and checked it over and nothing abnormal found. Hooked up a different oil pressure gauge to make sure the one in the car was good and everything read normal again. Hooked the car one back up and it was normal as well. Drive it a few more times with no issue but came to the conclusion I didn’t trust the pump so I pulled it and replaced it with I think the select series of pump.
