Awesome car Russ:beer Might seem like a dumb question, but does SS/AH stand for Super Stock Automatic Hemi? How many other designations are there in your class?:coffee

A question regarding race numbers back in the day. For example, our Dave Strickler:bow in his 61 Biscayne and 62 Bubbletop. He had #201 on the side of the car in 1961, then #852 also in 1961, then #201 and #602 in 1962. Iv'e also seen # 744 on the side of his 62 Bubbletop. His number 602 seemed to remain through the 63 Z days and also 64 Hemi era. I was just wondering why the different race numbers?

Carl,
Some of this is fact some is opinion. Facts: Dave Strickler was married to Ammon R. Smith's daughter, Susan. The Ammon R. Smith Auto Co. was located at 201 Carlisle Ave. York PA.
Opinion: I believe Dave used the 201 number because that was the street number of the dealership. When N.H.R.A. assigned their number to his cars he changed it or in some cases got the number before the graphics were painted on the car.

Note the 201 number on this photo includes the rest of the street address. It may have been on there only in promotional photos for the dealership. I think this shot was done for that reason.

In this pictures taken while Dave and Bill were running at the Indy Nationals the number has been changed to 744.

I don't know anything about the significance of the 602 number but I imagine Dave requested the use of it from N.H.R.A. Maybe Jody will see this and offer some insight.
