When I made the cut in high school for the basketball team we were offered a pair of Chuck Taylor Converse high tops for something like $3.00.
I remember asking my Dad for the money and he wondered why we didn't get them for free. Now I find out Nike owns Converse, bummer!
Those were the third pair of shoes my Dad had to buy, the others being cleats for football and spikes for baseball. Basketball was that sport we played in between football and baseball to keep in shape

Pretty sure I haven't bought a Nike product since then (of course Nike didn't exist in the 60s)...
