Whew, where are Brian and Skim when you need them :) ?

Started on the '62 post car about 2 months ago, then stopped for a bit. Now I am feeling better and back on it. Task is to smooth out the existing paint, seal it off, then build it back up even smoother and repaint to the original two tone specs. Blame it on Quik9er's brother, who brought his Twilight Blue/Ermine White '62 to the Thompson meet :).

Here are some pics of where I am right now. Lots of prep work, doing it in the driveway. Seal and block, build up and block, lots of time consuming labor... The black coat is the sealer over the earlier repaint, which was holding up OK. I did have to work several key spots first, but that's normal. The purpose of the sealer is to separate previous work from future buildup and final base coat/clear coat. Yes, I plan to shoot that final set of BC/CC in a booth! But the build up part one can easily do in the driveway and the garage. Just don't let your wife and neighbors be around when you do it :). I'm using mainly HVLP, so there's not a lot of material in the air.

So the black is the sealer, then I spotted a few sections, then scuffed it up and shot three coats of Evercoat's polyester sprayable filler. That's the gray stuff. It seems to build up nicely, I still have to long board it to see where I am. Surely this will take a few shots to get all the locations straight. While not perfect, it will be wayyyy better than the last effort, he didn't even take the trim and doors/hood/trunk off. Hope this one looks good for the next ten years :).

Cheers!
TomK

P.S. Long boarding is not for the light hearted...

Looking GOOD

Hi Tom i dont post much but i can see the one problem your having, that white car there, what ever it is, thats clearly in your way you need to bring that over by me so you have room to sand. I had a lot of sucess with my 64 impala and 69 skylark
with klingspor long board paper when i was wet sanding, it holds up great and even their 80 & 100 grit regular paper holds up to water.I put it on a plastic long board and it did the trick, hope this helps a bit, hope to see it when its done.Good luck. Nice 63 split btw, Greg :roll
