Redneck car repairs (NOT Red-Green!)

This is no joke but a bad joke. In 1973 or so, i was working nights and weekends in a gas station and going to Pasadena City College going through the vocational automotive program (which I finished), and I used to see a 62 Chevy running around with no trunk lid, but a reasonably made stake truck bed replacing the lid. Problem was, the car was a Bel Air hardtop. It was rather sad to see it then, but it would be a real disaster now to see one of those being used like that. Another real misuse of a car was an old geezer that had a Lincoln Continental 4 door convertible, no rear seat, no top, no trunk lid, and the whole car full of junk batteries. That was his junk battery hauler. Wonder what happened when the unit body prematurely rusted out and if the whole thing folded up on him one day?
