"TAMELESS"

for those old timers in the Chicago area, you will probably remember the white 63 Dodge MAX Wedge that was know as "TAMELESS", which raced at the Amphetheater, US 30, Oswego and a few tips to DaGrove...

It was owned and raced by a fellow named Bob..I won't say his last name..He owned the car since new, having ordered it from Grand Spaulding Dodge, better known as Mr Norm's...the Dodge is a 330 sedan that had a 426 stage II cross ram and 3 spd on the floor..Bob owned the car for approx, 28 years in which he morphed it into a GAS car having a straight axle, and back again with a 440 in it along with a Dana carrying steep gears and an automatic replacing the stick..

Bob sold the car to a guy in Wisconsin, to which he re-painted the car red and had graphics that are of the 80's era to which it was painted..The new owner never realy droe the car and was soon sold to another guy in Elgin, Illinois, whom also didnt drive nor start the car for almost 8 years of his ownership!!.. so he put it up for sale on his front lawn..

A friend of mine, who lived out that way in Elgin, saw the car and gave me call knowing I was really into nostalgic racing and was looking for an old MOPAR.. I called the owner and soon found myself out that way..about an hour or so NW of me.. THERE HE WAS...I knew I had to have "TAMELESS"..!!..in short order I bought a rust free never damaged 63 Dodge 330 MAX Wedge machine..next day I was towing HIM home..boy did HE get the looks with the ass end sitting high with 31x13.50 M&H slicks on super tricks..

I started the 440 up after taking my time going thru it..had an Accel dual point distributor, which I know how to tune (a lot of guys get confused with these)..turned the key and BAMMM...I mean MUSIC to my ears...talk about a healthy cam!!...1,200 was the idle..pulled it out on the street and foot braked it...talk about nose high...I know we had lift off!!..

that was back in 1997 I believe...the car sat in the garage for another few years while I played with my Camaro...wasn't until 2001 that I pulled the entire car apart and started to chassis, back halve and install a narrowed 9" with all the Strange trick pieces..I bought an AlterKtion complete K member with tubular upper and lower control arms, 4-link rear with Strange adjustables and Hyper coils ...

I have all the CM tubing in which I will be bending up my own cage and such...the engine is the one we had in our Duster..its a 499 making 900, give or take a few in the last tune it was in..the trans is a 727 built by CRT, John Cope..will have an air shifter and all the goodies I took out of the Duster when we sold "MAX"

here are links to the work being done...
