Does anybody know what valve covers would be correct for a 400hp 65 409? I know chrome and would assume drippers but what do I look for in wire loom holders and such?

IMBVSUR?

Pretty sure that was a hydraulic cam. No need for the drippers, however I could be wrong. The real experts are lurking in the wings and will swoop down any time with an answer.

Always wondered why they just installed the 400HP single 4 engine instead of the dual 4’s for the high perf version.

Trick question:
How many year models did Chevrolet provide dual 4 409’s.

You got it!!
In late 61 model production, May/June Chevrolet actually built 10 COPO 409/409 engines. None went in cars, but rather were send to the big drag racers of the day, Don Nicholson, etc. for the O/SS class. NHRA printed a supplement sheet for their rules to allow the new engines and the individual parts.
Great job!!!
