Water pump failure

Aftermarket aluminum pump; we will call brand X. Not blaming the pump at all. But it launched the fan and clutch into my Aluminum radiator. Ordered a repot fan and clutch, putting an iron pump back in. Shaft looks porous on the brand x pump. Thinking things through now. I have solid motor mounts, Maybe a bad idea? Could have developed a harmonic that killed the pump. Want to repair it properly

Fathead,

Thanks for the advice; already ordered some polyurethane mounts for the engine and transmission. Going back to GM iron pump; figuring on poor materials in the Brand X pump. Man did that make a big bang though!!! Not sure if the radiator will be salvageable...I will know soon enough...

Don,

I am a tradesman, no racer by any means, but man was everything made stout from the 60's on back. I enjoy working on the old girl every chance I get! I did some 1/8th mile stuff when I was in the Marines on the weekends. I learned a great deal watching and racing. It was fun.

Not too bad, I got lucky, I had the re cored original radiator, iron pump and back together that day. I was close to the house too! I had the itch it was like 55 degrees and dry out, few weeks ago. So I poured in some VP 110 and went out!

There appears to be a groove machined in the shaft there almost like a snap ring groove though I cant imagine why since the hub is a press fit on the shaft. The dark ring around the break indicates the depth,if there is a purpose for the groove that is one thing but otherwise it is what metallurgists call a pre-existing flaw and it is no coincidence that it broke there.
