Water Pump Rebuild

Has anyone rebuilt their own water pump. If so how hard is it to do. I cannot find a replacement for my early 64 engine. The only company which used to have them is Cardone and they are out of stock. I notice that Showcars has a rebuild kit for $55.00 and I was thinking about trying to rebuild mine so as to keep the date correct.

i took mine to my local napa auto parts store.. they called their rebuilder.. 2 day turn around..rebuilt my pump...$85

If you have press to press the hub off,then you can do it your self.If not any machine shop can do it.The kit comes with directions on how to do a rebuild.

Read in the Feb / March Chevy Rumble to make sure you write down the dimensions of the old hub location. Lay the old pump before disassembly on a flat surface and lay a straightedge across the hub and measure to the flat surface of the mounts. Something to do with the pulley alignment of the belt of the rebuilt pump.

I rebuilt my pump for $22.
Bought a rebuilt small block pump and used the guts to rebuild my 348 pump.
Works great and cheap.
