Were to find a 605 Steering box

There’s been a lot of interest in power steering conversions using the GM 605 box. I ran across a list of cars that use this gear box and thought it might make it easier to find one cheap.

Sorry I can't help you ID the two different ratios.

What parts do I need off the "donor" car in order to make the change on a 61 that still has all of the factory p/s "stuff" except hoses

lots of parts

605 box has a metric threads, your hoses won't work. You need a custom rag joint. You need a mount converter for the frame. You need a manual steering arm or an adapter for the PS arm. Easier to just buy a complete kit without the box. I used a 1985 Pontiac GP 605 box, quick ratio, rebuilt, about $100. I did need to grind off a little nub on the inboard side of the box to clear the PS pump pulley.

· 605 Conversion Bracket
Can be purchased at Specialty Shops or through ebay

· Center Link on assisted power
o For ’58 from manual steering box
o For ’59-‘64 from manual or power assist steering box
Use your existing or through ebay

o Splined
o Double D
o Smooth
Can be purchased from Borgeson, Flaming River or through ebay

· High Pressure Hose
Can be purchased from Autozone, Kragen or custom made from a hydraulic hose shop

· Low Pressure Hose
Just purchase the end fittings, a length of 5/16” hose fuel line and hose clamps

NOTE: Ensure that the Power Steering Pump and 605 Steering Box has the same style fittings. The two styles of fittings are Flare and O-ring.
