so there's no way of knowing if it had a 283, 327, etc.?
Here's what I've come up with for the numbers I have:
VIN: 166375JXXXXXX ('65 Impala SS 2dr Sport Coupe)
11C : November, 3rd week
ST 65-16637: Impala 2dr sport coupe, 8cyl
Body - JAN3622: ?
TR 879: Impala SS, red interior, vinyl, bucket seats
Paint R-R: Regal Red lower & upper body color
E: Tinted Glass
2L: 4 speed, M21, M22
3C: Padded Dash
5W: Right Exterior Mirror
Is what I've come up with correct? I can't find and RPO numbers for the engine... where would those be? Thanks again for everyone's help.
*14X6" rims 6" rims were available in '63 & '64 but not standard on any 409 unless the motor was factory installed in a station wagon
Beg to differ with you (just a little) good buddy. All five of mine are 14*6 date coded (March) '65s and sported 8.20*14 tires originally. Oddly, all five of them are also stamped 65-GM-W on the face of the wheel hubs. I wonder if that means "W" referred to 409?? or "W" as in Wagon ??? They could have been shared between the two of them I guess... But I'm fairly certain that all '65 409 cars came with 14*6 rims and 8.20*14 tires from the factory.
Let's change directions a little... Here is an interesting eBay ad I saw just yesterday...

I'm curious as to what you all think (I have my opinion of it) , Is this an original L-78 convertible??? or isnt it??? The difference could be worth many thousands of dollars.
