Ray Lahood, Secretary of Transportation, commits a classic DC gaffe, telling the truth. The Mainstream media yawns, but Terrence Jeffrey of CNS News was not asleep at the wheel (as it were). He reports:

Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood told a group of reporters at the National Press Club on Thursday that he wants to "coerce people out of their cars."

In Newsweek magazine last week, nationally syndicated columnist George Will published a piece critical of Lahood, entitled, "Ray Lahood, Transformed--Secretary of Behavior Modification."

"He says he has joined a ‘transformational' administration: ‘I think we can change people's behavior,'" Will reports that Lahood said over lunch. ...

The moderator of the press club event asked Lahood: "Some in the highway-supporters motorist groups have been concerned by your livability initiative. Is this an effort to make driving more torturous and to coerce people out of their cars?"

Lahood answered: "It is a way to coerce people out of their cars.

I applaud the Secretary's honesty, as I deplore the elitist mentality that seeks to coerce Americans.

I hope that my fellow lab rat Americans will wake up before it is too late. We live in an American where the authorities will bully us into lifestyles they have chosen.

Unfortunatly Bob, What I have read about the Value ADDED Tax or VAT is in addition to Income tax. And the VAT tax is unseen by the public, added on the retailer or manufacturer and passed onto the public. They may lower the Corp tax if the VAT passes :

Big Brother nanny states always need more funding to implement their latest "Great Idea".
The old "Great Idea" is rarely abandoned, and never de-funded.

Any time Gov. Org. can disguise or hide a tax increase those responsible are lauded as heroes.
So if the average American remains largely ignorant of the cost and true purpose of VAT the socialist will be much more able to implement their goals.

An unrestrained description of those goals would be too totalitarian to be easily believed, but hints of the the truth do occasionally slip out.

2010 may genuinely be our last chance at peacefully derailing these schemes.
For now we have to resist via a hostile congress as best we can.
Each of us should be known to our congresscritters by name, even when they are the enemy.
I often hold my nose to contact "my" senator (Dirty) Harry Reid.
Hopefully he will be gone in 2010, he is certainly one of the bad ones.

I think Obama has not only spent more money than all the other presidents,It is my belief that he has spent more money than any other person in history back to the beginning of recorded history. BHO learned how to extract cash and spend it on silly sh*t at the feet of the master crook, Richard M.Daley.
