With gas being about .30 cents a gallon, I can't believe anyone even cared about MPG? Look at what WE live in!!!
My first real job paid $ 2.50/hr in '73 or a hundred a week. I paid my parents room and board $ 20.00 per week. I was responsible for my clothes, meals away from home and the care and feeding of my '62 Impala SS 327/250 4 speed. Thankfully it got around 18mpg on highway trips thanks to a 3.08 pumpkin. That went to about 10mpg when flogging it and when I stabbed the 4.11 in it. In '74 the Arab oil embargo erased affordable gasoline forever and forced me to take on a part time job.
I never regretted these things and consider these incidents to be life's lessons that shape who you become. Today's kids need to get out of Mom and Dad's basement and grow a pair.
