I have learned over the years that torque is the fun number and stroke is torque and cylinder heads are horsepower.
I had a 565 Reher Morrison engine in my old Nova drag car 2700 lbs. Broke the crank and put a 583 Reher short block under all the same parts. Same heads cam etc. On the dyne it made exactly the same HP 1017.
On the track that 1/8 more stoke was worth a .10 8.34 -8.24
So when I think about buying pistons and rods for my 409 I think why not go to 4.00 crank or better yet 4.25 especially in a heavy car.
Just my .02
