best way to store a spare third member

I ran out of time this year to get the assembled third member in the car before I put the car away into storage so now I have to store it till spring. Should I just use some gear lube and coat the guts real well with gear lube so it doesn't flash rust?

I just got an old plastic bucket and set it in there with oil

i make sure my third member assy. is real oily then stick it in a 5gal plastic pail with the pinion yoke sticking up. the bucket will take the shape of the housing and seal real well, it'll stand up, not take up much room, and as a bonus, it has a carrying handle.

i've always done this and it works great. maybe Bobs409 might put this in the "tips" section?
