Ok guys, I need some help.
I can't find a starter to work with my 409. in a 64 impala 4 speed.
because of clearance problem with my headers, I have to use a mini starter.
I have a late model bellhousing ans a 168 tooth flex plate.
I have the holes in the block, both the inline and angle ones. the inline are 2 and 3/4" wide.
I tried one from a suburban 350, but it would hang up and not release.
I tried to shim it, but it still hangs up on the wheel.
I tried one for a 427 engine, but it hangs up.
I tried a mini starter with no nose cone and two sets of holes, but that did not come close to working.
Has anyone had this problem, and what starter did you use to fix it.
Any help will get me closer to turning on my car.
