Oil pump installation question

I'm finally finishing the 348 for my 61 Bel Air, and I've got a few assembly questions regarding the oil pump.

First, does anyone recommend using a sealer between the oil pump mounting surface and the mount on the rear main bearing cap? If so what kind?

Also, how much clearance should I have between the oil pump pickup and the bottom of the pan?
