Hey Guys, went to the auction sight today to check out things.Hooked up with Dick Mackenzie and Alen George while we were there. The cars about 40 of them outside, I must say were very, very dissapointing. On their web sight their saying that some of the cars are number #6 quality and very reastorable.Well if these cars were number #6,I'd hate to see what their #10 looks like.Every car that was out on the lot was absolutely rust buckets, with the exception of maybe 3 or 4 cars. They would be good for parts cars but thats it.Everything was in pretty bad shape. There was a 1963 Belair outside that definely was a keeper.Inside it was kinda neat, engine parts everywhere. Most of the 409 motors seemed to be truck blocks. No real high horsepower stuff in the blocks. They had a nice collection of intakes all types for both high horse and low horse motors. There were a couple of Offenhauser intakes and Mallory Distributors there as well. Not only were there some 409 items but there was a lot of 348 items as well. The Parts all belonged to a machine shop, motor builder,so there was a ton of 396,427,454 type big blocks, heads, intakes as well.It was definetly worth the ride going up and checking all the items out.I.m showing a few pictures here, but just click on the sight below and I have about 75 pictures for your enjoyment. Thanks!

Thanks for the pics. It will be interesting to see how the auction goes. Maybe prices will be low, who knows?

With this new added emphasis on building a budget truck engine, perhaps all these parts will fall in your lap and we can be looking at pictures of this stuff at your place :)

Will you be attending the auction?

Robert,Was wondering where you were at today.Lot of nice 348 stuff here.I'm hoping that things go for a reasonable price tomorrow. The auction company got E-Bay involved and you can bet that will drive up prices. John

I've been watching these items for a week now and just drooling over some of the stuff. I'm like the rest of you, concerned about what the prices will end up being. Unfortunately I'm down in Arizona and can only go by what I see in pictures. Thank you very much for posting up all the pics here, I can get a better idea of what the stuff really looks like.

Are any of you going to the auction? I'd appreciate knowing if you are. Would it be a good idea for each of us to post what things we're interested in so we don't end up bidding against each other and driving the prices up? I know it may sound odd and maybe you don't want to do it, I understand. But I don't want to bid against any of you and cause your price to be any higher than necessary. I'm only interested in a few of the items. If money was no object I'd stock up on a lot of them because I'm such a pack rat.:D

Please let me know if you're going. I'd like your opinion on the stuff I'm watching. Also, I'd like to ask a favor of you guys that are somewhat local. "If" by some lucky chance I actually can buy any of the items, might I ask your help in directing me to a good shipping company? I know they have someone listed on their site for items under 50 lbs, but if I buy a motor or something like that I'll need some assistance in getting it shipped.

Should we start a list amongst ourselves so that we don't bid against each other or is that a stupid idea?

Thanks - Ken

Is anyone local to the auction that would be willing to pick up and ship some parts to those that cannot make it to the auction, but bid on Ebay???

Auction

Hello to all,
We just returned from the auction, never even registered for a number. Allen was still there, he was interested in a few items. Most everything was less than we expected, some of the stuff was really rough. Virtually all the engines were trucks, both 348 and 409. Somebody said all the good stuff was picked through before the auction company was brought in. It was worth the hour drive to see it all, though. Saw Dick also, he was thinking about heading out also, didn't seem to be any real bargains or rare parts to get.

Just got home. Gave up after the manifolds were sold. As Steve says there really wasn't anything that was worth getting excited about.
I think most people on here follow and understand the 348/409 marketplace. If you were on site and bid on an item the auction company added 15% on your bid for their cut and then another 7% on to your bid for the State of PA. for a grand total 21% over your bid. Now if you know an item is currently selling for $100 at the local or national swap meets or on line are you going to bid $100 or more for that item? :dunno Many items went well over what you can find them on Ebay for.
I don't know if there are that many people that don't know the market of if people just can't do the math! As Ron White said "You can't fix stupid".

Hey Guys, looks like Dick beat me home today to post.I agree totally what Dick and Steve had posted, not many deals here today. You could do better on a normal E-Bay Auction. Not many real savay bidders, all were caught up in the mood of the day, being in "W" Heaven. It was however "A REALLY NICE BREAK FOR WINTER",seeing old friends, meeting new friends, being around all of those X frame cars, and talking cars all day long!!!! Thanks Guys!!!! JOHN

Oh Yeah,ONLY 56 DAYS TO SPRING,44 DAYS TO DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME!!!,Buts whose counting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Watched the auction from eBay and was tempted several times to buy something. The camel hump and hi-po heads went cheap as well as the new 498 crate motor. Several of the trannys went pretty reasonable too but after you pay the commission and shipping it just wasn't worth it to me. I never saw any of the exhaust manifolds sell, were they the first ones auctioned? The intakes went for big money I thought, and agree that I've seen them on eBay or other ads for the same or less price.

What did you guys think of the price on the green 64 Impala 409? Or the red Impala sedan? I thought the sedan was a great buy, but all I had to go on was pictures. Was the green 64 documented as a true 409 car? The light yellow Biscayne went cheap I thought, the motor alone should of been worth what the whole car sold for, and again, going by the pics - looked to be in decent shape?:dunno
