Today I was able to block off my end two carbs and what a difference. My idle went down about 200 RPM so that how much the "slivers of gappage" were feeding the engine!! The vacuum came up to about 15-16 inches but it was bouncing there. What is that a usual sign of? I couldnt...

Dido, I was thinking that would be my next move. Any suggestions on timing? And should my stock points distributor be adding more than just 2 degrees of vacuum advance? Or is that low because I dont have a whole lot of vacuum to give it more?
Yes they are original carbs, the ends are just dumpers. As for the engine specs go the only thing I know about it is it was a fresh rebuild and its a hydraulic cam. The previous owner didnt have any paper work to pass on. I really would like to know what the cam specs are that would be helpful.
I have been tweeking on my engine to get it to run right but have had some problems. I have only been able to get low vacuum readings of about 13 inches with 4 degrees advance base timing (as the book calls for) and the most I was able to get was 15 inches with about 12 degrees advance also it...

I need some advice. I have a 348 with tri-power, Its a fresh rebuild and Im needing to know where to set the idle screws on the center carb as a base line. Im at about 1500 feet above sea level. Is there a good rule of thumb to get me started? Thanks for the help!
