Cam recommendations please 340 HP 409

Thanks for the advice. Which pistons would you suggest that are "reasonably priced" for what you get? The .040 CP pistons are what came with the engine when I bought it. (already milled down to 10.5:1) The short block is already assembled. But,. the engine has never been fired up.

Cam recommendations please 340 HP 409

Thank you very much for the advice. My current real axle gearing is 3.08. I'd hoped to stay with the 2 spd powerglide for practical purposes. I may consider changing the diff gears. Would your recommendation still be 3.73 or possible 3.55 considering the fact that I'd be keeping the...

409 ballast resistor wiring help needed

Thanks for the post. I'm live in Manitoba The shop manual that I have does not list a "ceramic ballast resistor" for the 340 HP 409. It lists an "in wire" (same as 283 or any other engine). Only the HP 409 is listed with a ceramic type in 1964. You have a ceramic ballast resistor on your...

409 ballast resistor wiring help needed

Thanks very much. I read one of your other posts about the closed system which was used from 64-65. What do you feel is the most efficient crankcase ventilation configuration. Closed or open (pre '64) ? Right now I don't have the oil filler tube with hose coupler and related hoses ,... so I...

    1965 340 Hp 409

I bought it locally from a rare engine re-builder. Like every 409 ,.. this one has a story. He had a friend who moved to B.C. in the 80's. (with the '65 Impala 409). The owner yanked the engine around 1995. He fell on hard times and and moved to Ontario. When he moved from B.C. ,... he...

409 ballast resistor wiring help needed

Hi Ron Does your '64 409/340 have the factory hoses on the intake? See attached photo. This is a factory '64 409/340 (not mine) I need to see where the hose from the back of the intake goes (crankcase venting). Also the hose that comes from the oil filler.

409 ballast resistor wiring help needed

I need some information on wiring a 409 in a car that did not have this engine from the factory. I'm told that factory 409 equipped cars had a ceramic ballast resistor on the firewall. Do I need to install the same resistor in a car that does not have that type of factory wiring? Is it really...
