409 High HP 2x4 Intake Coming soon Plus Z-11

These are some photos I took today. As you can see, the McQuillen-style intake will fit under a stock hood. BUT, I had to machine .250" off the top plate, which opened up a big can of worms because the middle between the carb pads didn't have enough material for this operation. So, I welded in...

    NHRA Hot Rod Reunion

I just spoke to Allen George (Blue Screamer), he said there are 9 racers already parked. My plan (tentatively) is to leave home in Landis, NC at 3:00 AM and drive straight through to Bowling Green. I'm hoping to be at the track by noon Thursday. Took Big Red out last night for a quick test...

    NHRA Hot Rod Reunion

Gary (Tri5Man), I'll be arriving some time on Thursday as well. I think it would be great for all of the show folks to "congregate" just as the drag race folks are doing! If you've got an extra spot, throw a chair out (if allowed)(HaHa). Jeremy

    Zinc Additives

When I rebuilt the 482 in Big Red in 2003, I put a hydraulic flat tappet back in it. I got some "special" Pennzoil break-in oil from work (DEI) since we were sponsored by them. I ran that with a bottle of EOS on the dyno and the first 1,000 miles or so. Ever since then, we've ran Rotella 15W40...

This picture was taken on Friday of The Run to the Sun. It was taken via helicopter at the northwest corner of the show field on Oak Street.

    NHRA Hot Rod Reunion

Meet Big Red. The first car my parents bought as a married couple back in April of 1969. 482 c.i. W-engine, 5-speed Richmond OD, 9-inch Ford w/4.00:1 locker.

    NHRA Hot Rod Reunion

Well looks like y'all will have me to put up with! I reserved a room at the Hyatt Place yesterday. Will be driving Big Red from NC. Won't be dragging it since I need it to drive home! But I'll be there with y'all! Jeremy

    New Stud Girdle by Jomar

Carmine, stud girdles are used to improve valvetrain stability. As horsepower increases and spring pressures increase, the rocker studs experience an unimaginable amount of force, both front-to-back and side-to-side. A stud girdle ties all of the rocker studs together into a common "truss", that...

Pulse Tuning in Drag Racing Intake

I think some of the stalled fuel is due to the fact that the plexiglass box is much larger than an actual plenum and there is most likely some "dead-air" spaces along the sides and corners of the box.

Pulse Tuning in Drag Racing Intake

I saw this over on another website. Yes, I know it's not a 409, it's not even a Chevrolet, but it shows some great video of what kind of pressure pulses and fuel circulation is going on in our intake manifolds! Enjoy, Jeremy

    Intake manifold help

Maybe, if you're running Edelbrock carburetors, plumb the hose into the rear port of the rear carburetor like you would do for power brakes(?). Just an idea...

The timing set in my 482 is from Lamar Walden Automotive. I have a 454 LS7 crank with the big block snout.

I saw this video over on facebook. I hope y'all enjoy this bit of drag racing history as much as I did!

409 High HP 2x4 Intake Coming soon Plus Z-11

I'll try to get a better one this weekend. Everything I have is focused on something else in the engine bay and not the intake. Jeremy

409 High HP 2x4 Intake Coming soon Plus Z-11

I got mine to fit, after I machined an extra .250" off of the top plate. That opened up another can of worms with that recess in between the carbs. I also had to get creative with the air cleaner I picked.
