    Mini Starter Alignment

According to the info I have found, the SBC starter would interchange with the "W" engines. Since I happen to have a few lying around, I thought I would use one on my 409. Of course it doesn't line up with the two bolt holes on the block. I bolted it up with one bolt to check the engagement with...

    Harmonic Balancer question

I am getting ready to order my balancer. Just wanted to double check with you guys which is the correct one. I see the 6-1/4" is for the 348 and 409 Low Performance engine. There is also a 6-3/4" for hi-po engines. I have 656 truck engine and would assume I need the 6-1/4". Thanks in advance guys.

Distributor clocking and oil pump priming

Don, do the new distributors they sell now have the grooves all the way around? What was the original purpose for putting the grooves only partially around the housing? Thanks

Distributor clocking and oil pump priming

I sure this question has been asked and answered before but.... What is the proper orientation of the distributor in regards to getting proper oiling when installed. Also, any issue using an old 409 distributor that has been stripped to use for priming the pump? Thanks Guys!

    Installing pistons in block.

I have tried all 3 of my ring compressors. Two ratchet band type and one hand compressor. None will fit in the combustion chamber due to the thickness of the bands. Going to have me dad who hasn't built a 409 in over fifty years give it a try tomorrow.

    Installing pistons in block.

I will start installing the pistons tomorrow in a truck block 409. I have seen the video of them using a ring compressor, but have also seen on this forum NOT to use the compressor. Can someone please share with me the best method to get them in without damage. Thanks again for the help guys!
