What is the difference between a 1963 Impala SS and an Impala Super Sport? I thought SS meant SuperSport. Nada list them as two different cars with two different values. :dunno

I have a 63 Impala SS convertible with a stock 327/300hp on a 2 speed powerglide...all stock. The diff housing has a "P" on it for posi, what was the stock gear ratio for a 300hp with a powerglide? 3.08? :dunno There is no visible differential code.

Bungy, funny you should ask that. Originally I had the engine 'open' (intake off, timing chain cover off) and could visually see that #1 was at TDC. How ever when I installed the torque converter I had to turn the flywheel to install the bolts. This was done without the distributor in so TDC...

Yes TDC is with compression stroke on #1 cylinder, I can actually see the cylinder. I changed the oil and filter, dried the plugs, intake manifold and cylinders. I just put some oil (about 1/2 teaspoon) in each of the cylinders to lube them. I checked timing, plug wiring sequence and removed...

I have been unable to find a temperature sensor with two leads on it to match the wire harness (green and light green). My guess is one wire is for start up (cold) and the other is if the engine should overheat (hot). The sensor(s) I have only has one lead. I would assume :dunno It's for hot...

I am converting my 283 63 Impala SS to a 409/340...almost there. I bought a new tach for the dash and it looks like I have to CUT A HOLE in the dash to seat the tach.....say it ain't so!!! Do they make a newer solid state tach that doesn't require the cut-out?

I am at the point where I am about ready to pull the engine (283) out of the 63 Impala and put the 409/340 in. :) Usually I have the front clip off to install/replace an engine but because I'm using the same trans (2spd powerglide), I'm not sure which would be easier....removing the engine...
