"...they were marked as GM 4.56:1 gears..."
I don't believe I've ever seen a ring and pinion set marked as to ratio. The ones I've always seen just listed the teeth number of the ring and the pinion and left you to do the math. Also, doesn't it take a special ring gear/aftermarket set or an...
Back to the original question about "BB" differential. My original Chevrolet Parts and Accessories Catalog (parts manual) covering 1938-1964 and printed in 1970 lists BB for 1963 as "Powerglide (6 cyl.) (3.36 ratio)".

Had a new (well, it was a repo) '65 GTO, black with white interior and I worked in a foundry at the time---had to keep the interior covered most of the time.

I have some standard 348 pistons (used) but never paid much attention to what compression they were. Do you have any numbers that are inside them and I'll check?
SteveD
Richard, I took measurements (port size only) of all the 348/409 heads except the 1147 heads and posted it here awhile back. But no runner volumn, which is of course more important.
SteveD
Don't know for sure about the 1147 hipo 348 heads, but the 817 lopo 409 heads DO have larger ports than the 379 lopo 348 heads. The ports are approximately 1/8th inch longer.
SteveD
The 409 lopo 817 heads are the same size ports as the hipo 348 heads and I could use a set of fresh ones for that $300. Fat, you live in the next state over, I think, and I can come pick them up if you know of a fresh set for that price.

Richard,
I see in your Nova ad where bias ply tires are offered as an option, but don't see where they were standard equipment. Did I miss something?
