    Carburetor??

Just for the record: It sounds like your accelerator /Vacuum Pump isn't working. Probably the leather piston seal has gone bad, or else the check ball at the bottom of the accelerator/vacuum pump bore is stuck. Google: Mikes Carburetors - they have tons of parts, and great instructional videos...

    409 Oil Pan

I hear ya'. Here in Northern Illinois today, it's 110F Heat index. I was out in the back last night doing some welding on my pan at about 6:30PM, and gave up it was so hot and humid. Better over the weekend though.... we hope.

    409 Oil Pan

Yes, it's a standard spin on adapter. I fill the filter about 7/8 full before spinning it on.

    409 Oil Pan

The pan is 18 ga. If there are small dings and dents, just take a hammer and dolly to 'em, and tap, tap, tap away. Larger dents will also contain some metal stretch/shrink, which is more difficult to deal with but not impossible. In the end, YES, it is very possible to remove all dents with a...

    409 Oil Pan

I'm almost done with the oil pan. Lots of cutting, added 2 " to the sump. My calculations tell me it will end up as a 6.5 quart pan. Figured out a nifty way to add the embossed strengthening ribs to the 2" piece I added with a homemade fixture. I'll likely finish it up this coming weekend (July...

    409 Oil Pan

Thanks Carmine. I already have the engine in my '56. I drilled new motor mount holes exactly in between the 6 cyl. and 8 cyl. holes on the frame, and used the V8 stock mounts. Fits perfect, and valve covers have about 1.5" clearance in the rear. Everything else lined up as well. I had to...

    409 Oil Pan

Thanks Don, I hope that's all it is. It would be at the "shallow end" of the pan, right in front. I'll put the pan back on with just 4 bolts, and turn the engine over by hand to see where it hits. Sure will save a lot of messing around. Thanks for the tip. Bob

    409 Oil Pan

I've heard that you cannot use a 348 oil pan on a 409 because the 348 pan isn't wide enough. My question is: Where is it not wide enough? They both have the same bolt pattern on the same outer flange. At the Deep End where the pan is the lowest, the sides on both pans are straight down, not...
