Not sure if these help but there are really countless issues in drag racing at any distance. You want your car to accelerate/pull hard as fast as possible all the way to the finish line. You literally want it to loose steam just after you pass the finish line. Use the calculators and see if they give you a better idea of where you stand. I'm running a 4000lb plus car with a powerglide and a little over 300hp. I have little chance of getting off the line quickly with a 3.70 gear posi. First gear in my transmission is way to high at my power level.

A thing that I used against much faster cars was dial it one under the fastest that you think it will run and brakes were for AFTER THE FINISH LINE. When up against a faster car you can watch his "light" when he leaves in your rear view mirror.Handy if your opponent is known to "sand bag".

Faster car bracket racing has a couple of advantages. Slower car has first chance to red light. It is easier to judge finish line gap coming up from behind than looking over your shoulder.
All true.
But with the Compulink system that a lot of tracks are using, they can select between "first red" or "worst red". With "worst red", the faster car has no idea if the slow car red lit, he's got to go for it, and he may red light worse.
