1962 409 Assembly line photo

This is one of the few photos I have of a 1962 409 while on the assembly line. Looks like a single 4bbl to me

Frame 16...can you tell from the originals, is that the 409 or is that a small block? It appears to have an automatic on it???

thats a small block in frame 16 but a 09 in frame 17

Chevrolet published a little booklet each year in the 50's and 60's called "The Chevrolet Story". All of those shown were in the 1962 version of that little booklet. However, #15, #16 and #17 were also used in the '59, '60, and '61 printings of that little book. Obviously some of the photos are of 1962 assembly events; but the three mentioned above are probably of '59 assembly days. And that "W" motor is probably a 348.
Those old photos are sure cool. I wish all of the hundreds of photos that were probably taken by GM were available today for all of us to enjoy.

I saw that book once, a small tv guide size book, these photos were from another Chevy GM publication which states 1962, however those white sidewalls are in question along with the power brake booster.

In frame 17, is that a 5 1/2 inch rim or 6 inch rim and tire going on that 09?? Just kidding from one who got sucked up into the 5 1/2 vs 6 inch rim debate. Go back to opening your packages.
