1961 was 4-speed only, 62-63 you could get a 3 speed or a 4 speed, 64-65 was 4-speed or powerglide; no more 3-speed.

All good!! Didn't mean to veer of topic. I think this information is important to share. It may help someone make or not make an important vehicle purchase.

Still not correct on powerglide with 409’s
in 1963, 1964 and 1965 only 340 HP 409’s could be ordered with a 2 speed powerglide.
No powerglides sold by GM with solid lifter 409’s in 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1965

That 4 door 409 3 speed 1962 is the only one documented I have seen in the last 30 years.

I was just listing the transmissions available in those years with various 409s. I wasn't implying that any 409 could be had with any of those transmissions.

Very little difference between a 1962 327/300 HP factory 4 speed car
and a 1962 409 - 380 HP or 409 HP factory 4 speed car.

without the original window sticker with the 409 motor on the window sticker matching the serial number on the car,
there is only one item or 2 items if they are left on the car body to confirm a 409 car.

Unless you have an extra vin tag in the passenger door jamb from Mexico that lists the engine info and vin……… like mine

I'm guessing that a 1962 factory three-speed mated to a 409 (all from the factory) is a different animal than the 3 speed that sat behind an inline 6 cylinder (or a 283 or 327 for that matter) also in 1962?

If it has a back seat there could be a build sheet under the seats.
I was going to ask if the build sheet showed which engine came in the car ( It's been a long time since I looked at a build sheet). The car still has a back seat in it, I will pull it to see if the sheet is still there. Thanks for all the info shared over the last week!

The build sheet has codes for the engine and transmission in the car.

I think so the attached photos are from a 2007 post.
