As I stated earlier just got my 409/409 and am still learning. Was it possible to order a 409 with solid lifters and a 425 cam from the factory? Then you would have a 409/425, right? Or was making it a 425 hp something you did after the factory?

The 425hp was offered in '63 and '64. They changed the cam and exhaust manifolds to get the additional hp.Leo

HMMMM! The owner told me my 62 impala SS 409 was a 425 hp version. He said it was one of the last ones produced in 62 and therefore had the 425 hp. Don't want to complain too much since it is still a 62 SS 409, just not 409/409. When it runs it has a lope like a different cam and it sounds like solid lifters. Thanks!!

I do believe there was a service pak available from the dealers late in the '62 model year to upgrade the 409 hp motors to the 425 hp version that were coming for '63. I am sure others will chime in on this one. Leo

All 409s in 1962 were solid lifter.

Jim, does your car have the 425 hp manifolds? If not, it has the 409 hp manifolds or headers. Leo

Great info. guys!!!!!!! Evidently he was referring to the service pack. I will print off the pix of the exhaust manifolds. I assume the first one is 409 and second is 425?? Thanx
