Been a while since my last update, but it finally warmed up a little here in Connecticut so here is the latest. Will be taking the body off the frame as soon as the snow melts. In the meantime, all the parts that I can get to the sand blaster are being done and sealed and primed. Not sure I'll ever get it back together again, but this is my first big project and has been fun as hell. Car has been surprisingly in great shape. Little to no serious rust and should be a super nice body once blasted and primed. If anyone has a dash that want to cut the speaker grill out of, I would be delighted, as the previous owner hacked it up pretty good. The padded dash will cover the repair once it goes back on.IMG_1311.jpg

Jack Gibbs will be getting a motor shipped out to him soon to build something nice for the car if the block checks out o.k. - The crank is standard as are the cylinders, (I think).

Lookin good...they must have used a chain saw on the speaker............As far as I am concerned, your motor went the right way. I'm sure there are many others here that would do a great job, but I had good luck with Jack. Make sure he is paying for the phone call.................................:pokeHiJack......................:happy:happy:taunt

Finally had a weekend with above freezing temps and a little sun. Body is separated from the frame now and trying to get the body off to get started on the frame. Space is a problem as you can see. And the ever present snow blower has to share space.

My "prepped" parts department. Sand Blasted and sealed. Extra intakes and carbs. Wife has a few issues with storage location, but is very supportive!

I have seat covers under our bed right now, 2x4's in the main dining room (which has been closed off most of the winter to cut down on heating costs) and my closet has plenty of parts in it too. In my defense, we don't have a garage and I don't have a shop (yet). I do have some storage buildings at least.

Making some progress despite the cold and not really have done this before. Hope to have the body of the frame and mounted to the dolly this weekend. Slow going when you have no help and no damn room to work. I really envy you folks with a garage to work on your projects. Body and frame to sand blaster as funds permit. Motor left yesterday to Willow, Ca.

Why all the bracing in the door openings????.:scratch The body and floor panels look to be solid.

Your correct. Body and panels 100% solid and no rust. The body will be on this dolly for a while and will be transported to the blaster on the cart. The door gaps were perfect and straight. I'm sure that I am being overly cautious, but I have to raise the body incrementally and I want to take out all the margin for screwing that I possibly could. Not really knowing what I'm doing doesn't help either. All in all, this is a blast. I'm sure old hat to many of you.

Yeah it's overkill but better safe than sorry. :D That's a nice solid car.

If everything is solid the cars are actually fairly ridged. The trouble usually starts when guys start cutting rocker panels and stuff out with no bracing.
I know of at least one car where the guy replaced the rocker panel without bracing anything. Everything seemed to be fine until he went to install the door and found out it was too big. :eek

I think the convertibles have some extra bracing in the rocker panels but we actually removed all the door bracing on this convertible to paint it. Of course a hardtop would be quite a bit more ridged.

Well i have three bed up and two down ,so my stuff is really not in the way as someone could still sleep in that bedroom. No old smell as i even used por 15 chemical to clean dissassembled seat's and frame's, and coated black. Every thing else is new in boxes for the interior. Seat's are done and wrapped in blanket's She has extra stuff in there also so she can't get on my case too much!!!!:D:D

Good idea on bracing , transporting it like that i would feel better with those brace's.

Well, I gotten this far. Don't know why I think this was a good idea when I can't even tune the blue car. Learning a lot about what not to do and how to spend more money than what I have. This will be my "poor man's Z-11" when it's finally completed.
