58 4 SPEED

[1958 delivery]

Not sure if this has ever been answered. If a 4 speed was available as a dealer installed option (RPO 685) what shifter did they use?

So the dealer would have bought an aftermarket shifter to install in a 58

No I think Ansen made shifters for gm, I could be wrong need someone else to confirm but my 61 has a stock ansen shifter

Ansen style, same as 59-63 but I believe they were made by Inland, another GM Company.

Cecil, have you noticed that the Chevrolet production totals for 1958 RPO 685, records 4 were optioned that were not in Corvettes. Does this mean that there were 4 full-size Chevy's built that did have a factory 4-speed? Were they in racers? What shifter would they have had?

It's in the 58 AIM. Same shifter as 59 and later.
