64 409

I am going to check out a 64 Impala that supposedly was originally a 409 car but now has a 350. It is a 4 spd. What telltale items are there that will let me know it was actually a 409 i.e sway bar, rad, ???
Thanks,
Ken

Ken, look for the cowl tag under the hood usually on the passenger side. You will need to find the L and M code which you can check with the rpo code lists on this web site. I would also get the vin number off the vin tag so you can decode it with the vin decoder as well. Good luck Walt

The 409's had a 3/8 fuel line and a 3/16 return fuel line. You may be able to see the return line from under the hood, up against the fire wall, passenger side. If not, you will have to get under the car behind the right front tire. It will be attached to the frame all the way to the tank.

It also had 409 emblems on the fenders. But they may have filled and repainted. It had a ballast resister on the fire wall, but with the 350, they may have gone to HEI.
