Mess?,,, what mess ?? !!!!

First thing to do is put that white car outside !!! you will need the room,,

Lots of info here if you take some time and look through the threads for your answers.

Have you restored any cars before?
Not much difference just a lot of little things.

questions as you go along will be answered here,,,

Phil Reed will be a big help on parts and info also,,

Ya I have restored a few cars in the past. I guess what is throwing me off is the X in the frame. :dunno I just got off the phone with My Buddy Albert and he will need rims and tires. What rims came with the car 14", where to get them. Did redline tires come on this car? Also I need to find any frame markings that can go on the frame to spruce it up a bit as I dont think Albert made a log of any markings before refinishing the frame. So we will have to guess at it. Oh nice to meet you guys :beerbang

The car would have 14X5J steel rims with SS wheel covers. Be sure to get the correct wheels so they don't hit the front outer tie rods. See this page for tire info and other good stuff: http://www.348-409.com/1964factpage.html

No redline tires that I'm aware of. Can't help with the frame markings but would love to have them for my 63 too!

I recommend a shop manual & assembly manual. They are available at almost any parts vendor and will help out alot with a resto.

For parts, I've used almost all of them at some point. I'd recommend Hubbards http://www.impalaparts.com/customer/home.php, Restoration parts source http://restorationpartssource.com/store/index.html, Classic Industries http://www.classicindustries.com/impala.htm, Restoration world http://www.chevroletrestorationworld.com/ Just to name a few. One of our members Phil Reed also sells parts.

It's best to shop around as prices vary greatly! (unless money is no object, I don't have that luxury!) :D Well that should get you started in the right direction. Have fun! :)

Where did the weight on that 64 info page come from? Way lighter than actuals, and even old IHRA weights. My 64 409 stick weighted 3860 and it was non A/C non pwer brakes, and I'd removed the P/S. It was even heavier than the IHRA legal weight by 200 lbs.

Nice frame, hope I can get mine that nice when I get there.

NHRA used weight divided by hp to get the number used in determining which stock classes the car ran. Using my car, as an example, and doing backwards math, 10.71 x 340 hp gives a NHRA weight of 3641 lbs. (64ss 340hp) Actual weight is about 200 lbs heavier.
Here is a link to the NHRA page.

I think IHRA had an Impala listed at 3680 when I ran class in 72. Still amazing my smaller 2004 GTO weighs the same as the big ole Impala!

Hey crazychevelleman..

Personally, I prefer getting my parts from truckandcarshop.com, they are quick, have a good inventory, and most of all are consistently the cheapest place I have found.
I should be getting my car back from paint in the next week or so, I did most all the work in my frame off,any pics you need let me know..
get one or two assembly manuals, one for the garage, one for the reading room..lol
