Great story and video thank you
my dad was the bottom ball turret gunner on a B-17. he joined the air force the day he graduated from high school. he didn't talk much about the war but i saw lots of pictures he brought back of shot up planes. his family came from Greece and my dad was a small kid so they put him in the turret.

Thanks for this video, even though I was in the Air force for 20 years, I had never heard that story. You'd think with two Medals of Honor coming from it, I would have. Hap Arnold once said " the B-17 was airpower"
Some of you may know this but the saying "the whole nine yards" came from the WWII bomber gunners. The guns ammo belts were 27 feet long, the guys would come back from a mission empty and say "I gave them the whole nine yards" Just a little load toad trivia!

Great story, as a side note the B17 that has been in Milwaukie Oregon since 1947 as a gas station has finally been dismantled and moved to its new home to be renewed to flying condition :clap:clap:clap:clap
