Just saw Rick Hendriks 62 go for over 150k. Did anybody see what the 62 Bubbletop 409 went for?

I'm watching the 1963 Pontiac Bonneville ambulance that supposedly carried the body of President Kennedy. Did anyone see that part?

There is apparently another meaning for Craig Jackson's statement that I am unaware of. I am positive he mentioned the percentage numbers. I was probably wrong to assume that consignees were bidding on their own cars:doh BJ is a very successful business model and is doing many things correctly. I keep thinking there must be another explanation for Craig's statement that I am unaware of. If I have the facts wrong on this I apologize for misleading forum members. Leo

I believe BJ also sells cars outside the auction on regular consignment basis as any dealer would. Maybe that is what he was referring to.:coffee:

I went through the list last nite a saw a lot of nice cars in the 25-35k range, including a '64 SS 340hp/pg 409 numbers matching California car for $27,500 Leo

It depends on when your car goes through,, as in the time of day and what day,,
The BIG bidders are on friday night and most of saturday wilth the really BIG money spent on saturday.
If you are lucky and your car gets placed on thoses days and times you will get more money for it.
There is only so much time to run so many cars on those nights so B-J will try and place the best cars on those days.
The more money they get for a car the more money they make so they, B-J want the best cars when the big money bidders are there,,

Leo, I found the Craig Jackson interview that you referenced. I guess he was trying to show that the auction was not just attracting old money high rollers. It's all good, apologies not necessary.:cheers

"The auction boss proudly points to his events as a gateway to the hobby. Figures he's quick to tick off for the O.C. event include:

-- 58 percent of bidders were new.

-- 57 percent of consigners were new.

Those figures are consistent with other Barrett-Jackson events, he said. “We're a good entry point.”

Not to be disrespectful, but Craig Jackson would not, could not, and never did say that any of the cars at his auction could be " bought back by their consignors". You need to check your source for that statement.

I have no love, nor hate, for BJ or any of the auction houses. But complaining that they "cheat" is like going to Vegas and complaining that the casinos "cheat". They don't have to, they have a business model that ensures that the house always wins. If you don't like the odds, don't gamble.

There have been many rumours and falsehoods about BJ expressed on the internet in forums just like this one over the years. Craig Jackson actually reads this stuff, and has responded personally on several occasions. Where he feels his reputation has been harmed, he has even taken legal action.

Craig Jackson has a reputation?

Spent three days out at the auction, some of the cars that went through Thursday were no where near the quality of the Saturday cars. They all look good on stage but under natural lighting outdoors many were not very impressive thus the lower dollars. I was really suprised by the dollars some of the rods got , got the sense the market is starting to come back. It's a fun event to attend but pretty pricey for my tastes.

I happened to catch the end of that White '62 SS 409 sell for $175,000. I think it may have belonged to Rick Hendrick or something. Somebody help me out here and tell me what was so special about that car to fetch that kind of money.
