I have a condensor thats on one of the bolts that mounts the regulator. The wire from the condensor is free... I dont show a condensor in my shop manual. Any idea why this condensor might be there or what for?

Randy, Most likely a radio supression condensor. BTW, you have a PM.

If you have a generator car, that is one of three required capacitors for a radio equipped car shown in the accessory installation manual. The capacitor you mention connects to the "BAT" terminal on the voltage regulator. (Page 356 in the 1962 Accessory Installation Reference Manual)
