I'm rebuilding a 63 409 QG with the typical cracks. Can anyone recommend someone on the east coast that is an expert at welding cast iron. I have tried using a local shop but it made the cracks worse.

mabeauchamp, first of all welcome and sorry to hear about your cracked block. It sounds like the shop you took it to didn't know what they were doing. The reason the cracks spread is because they didn't drill holes at the ends of the crack.

If I were you I would look in the phone and call every welding shop in your area and ask them if they know how weld to cast iron.

Go to our search on this site and type in cracked block.Theres alot info on how blocks can be repaired.
