Determining push rod length (454)

Ok, thought it best to start a seperate thread for this one.

Since it looks like I will be putting the aluminum heads on the first 454, I have one problem. I was told the valves are longer than stock so will need non stock length push rods.

Question is, how do I tell what ones I need? :dunno

Here's the valves these heads have:

Exhaust valves:
Manley 11905-8XH-426 Stainless, 1.940 in. Diameter, .3100 in. Stem, 4.915 in. Length

Intake valves:
Manley 11856-8 Stainless Steel, 2.250 in. Diameter, .341 in. Stem, 5.494 in. Length

:scratch

Well first of all there are a lot of factors invovled but we will not get carried away. If you have an adjustable push rod you can use it to get the proper swipe on the valve stem and order that lenght. You can look at pic Ronnie posted for the 327 head post. In your case a taller valve should also mean a longer push rod to keep the geometry correct.

Bob I checked Compcam site and they have a little inststruction on checking push rod lenght. I personnelly use the Mid-Lift method which is a site also but for your needs that is hightesh but good reading when your done and bored.
